My 2006 525i has a little over 2,600 miles on it. Just wondering how long should the windshiled wipers last before its time to change them? The last two times I have used them in steady rain I have been getting a lot of streaking and a squeaking noise from them. I always use the automatic feature on the wipers so it's not like I even have them on constantly when its raining. I bought the car in late July. By the way this forum and all the participants in it are really amazing. Thanks.

Standard Advisory is once every 6 months... but mostly once a year should be more than fine...

I would think your wipers still should be good. Are wipers covered by BMW maintenance? If so, then I would have BMW replace them.

I think the wipers are covered by BMW. If so this will be my first time taking the car in for any kind of service. Should I go through my salesperson to make the service appointment or call the service department directly? After all his title is "Portfolio Manager."

You don't say where you are, but that would determine their life expectancy. Extreme heat and cold do them in more quickly. Here in northeast US, at least annually for refills is expected; usually including rubber-clad arms for winter, so that the slush doesn't freeze to the metal-work and push the blade away from the glass surface. I find that heat seems to be their worst enemy, but more are coming through with silicone blades now; they will last much longer.

Anyone know current BMW specs for rubber?

Cheers,
Ray Hull

I got new wipers at about 12K when I had the door seals replaced.

I'm in Baltimore......so we get a little of everything. The summers are hot and the winters are cold. I's strange they were working fine and all of a sudden I have noticed a real difference in the performance of the wipers. I checked the blades and nothing seems to be hindering contact with the windshield. Its strange that they would degrade only after 4 months.

For those in the US, just tell the dealer they're streaking and they'll replace them for free.

I get new wipers pretty much every time the car goes in...

I have 23000 km (15000 miles): the blades start slowly to decline (maybe it is do to cold weather which makes the rubber harder). They will last up to the 30000 km service....
