I'd just be a bit concerned about the effect it could have on the car paint or seals etc, if it wasn't diluted.
That was my worry too! Anyone else? Thoughts?

I think when people say to use undiluted fluid it's a bit misleading.
I think they are referring to the large ready-mixed 5l containers of washer fluid which is antifreeze and detergents already diluted with some distilled water. The 'neat' version of this fluid is usually designed for winter/freezing conditions; sometimes you can buy summer ready-mixes as well which are just more diluted. Even this ready-mixed winter fluid can be diluted further for summer conditions as you don't need as high a concentration of anti-freeze then.

The concentrated smaller containers you are taking about have very little (if any) distilled water in them. It is up to you to mix with water yourself and for winter conditions to ratio might be 3:1 or 5:1 for summer might be 20:1. The convenience of these concentrated solutions is that you don't have the lug around or store large containers of ready-mixed solution. I don't think they are meant to be used undiluted and doing so might damage the paintwork.

Yep! That is why I am wary of using it in undiluted form. Amongst the ingredients in my solution is Industrial Methylated Spirit . albeit probably in a weakish concentration. How does this affect our paintwork (if at all) ? Comments anyone?

Clearly, when I mentioned using the fluid undiluted, I was referring to the stuff that we can get here in the US at just about
any convenience store. It's a gallon jug and it's usually blue in color. It's not supposed to be diluted at all. If the directions to your product say to dilute it, then I think you should follow those instructions.

Once in a while, I use a "booster" (I can't think of the name of it right now) that is a concentrate that you add to the normal stuff. It's supposed to add additional detergent agents, etc. but I've never really noticed a big difference. Also, in the past I've used an additive made by Rain-X that's supposed to help the windshield repel water, etc.

Even then, the smell in the car after using the screen washer reminds me of my youth.....sat at the back of class with a fist full of topless Magic Markers!!!
The brand I like is more like a doctor's office. I wasn't ware that there was a super concentrated form that needs to be diluted. Sorry if I misled anyone. Like Rudy I was thinking of what we buy in US convenience stores.

Call us strange, but we tend not to like to pay for somebody else to add water when it comes (Nearly) free out of a tap. (Fawcet).

I had the same problem last winter, windscreen washer frozen, whilst the headlamp washer was fine. The problem is made worse with the diesel engines taking forever to heat the engine bay. 3 visits to the dealer, including a change of nozzle didn't solve the problem. I finally solved the problem by checking the screenwash I used. Even though the screenwash was rated to -8C and the liquid in the bottle remained fluid, fluid in the hose froze. I changed brand of screenwash - in fact a much cheaper brand and I have had no problem this year.

usually the rating refers to the temp before it freezes solid, which can crack the fluid reservoir.

It will turn to slush long before it gets down to that temperature and when slush it will not move around the pipes or come out of the nozzle.

In the UK Halfords (one of the larger motor accessories chains) rarely sell prediluted washer fluid in my experience. The stuff I buy is neat in 5 litre plastic containers and is recommended to be diluted at 20:1 for summer use and 4:1 for severe (UK) winter conditions.

So we just lug large containers of concentrated solution around our stores.

Love these winter tyres !!
Just tell the teachers to get some and then the schools could be opened.

So winter tyres are also snow tyres? I guess in terms of Nordic conditions all we had was a 10cm (4 inch) dusting. Have a look at what New York has been putting up with.... 6 feet!!!
