Windshield replacement shops in Da Bay?
Need to replace the windshield on my ride.
Safelite wants $850 for OEM parts and labor.
Dealer wants $1600.
Any members out in the Bay have any recommendations?
Geico comprehensive sucks  , BTW

Will have my windshield replaced soon by Safelite but with OEM part. They have to order it from the dealer, still waiting for part to arrive. Bought the rider clause in my policy where replaced parts have to be OEM parts only. Remember guys, add that rider into your policy just in case.
Just make sure that after the glass is replaced at a non-dealer place the windshield is programmed to the car or else the rain sensor probabl won't work.
I had a windshield replaced, with a non-OEM German-made, in NYC and then spent two weeks wondering why the rain sensor wasn't workng properly.
Then the repair shop took the car to an indepndent BMW dealer, they programmed the windishield to the car and it's been fine since then.

Wow. Did not know that.
For non-OEM, Geico will cover $500(Safelite quote)which will be zero out of pocket for me.
For OEM, Geico will cover only $31 after I pay my $500 deductible. Safelite quote for OEM is $850. That means the difference (850-531) will be out of my pockets

Your insurance policy will provide a replacement windshield that is 'cost effective'. Yes it's in every policy, and you signed up for it.
Does this mean you get a OEM new glass? Possibly.
There are many different qualities of glass out there. OEM glass will typically last longer and will be more resistant to rock chips and cracking.
You get what you pay for, we all want our insurance to pay for OEM, sometimes they won't. Choose your insurance wisely, they're all not created equal.
