I have a 2004 E60 530d and have windscreen condensation worse after short journeys, when leaving the car for 10 minutes and then starting up, the front windscreen mists up. I have the air con always on .. is this a fault or characteristic of this model?

I'd say it's normal depending on the weather. It should clear pretty quick however? I use the manual mode (on 'standard' aircon) to force extra air towards the windscreen and once clear press the AUTO button again... (The 'advanced' aircon has a boost button for just this function)

Always leave AUTO on and you'll never have condensation again.

Thanks, I always leave auto on, when I use the boost button it does clear, but gets worse before clearing, I never had this problem with my previous E39

I had this problem too (advanced A/C) until I happened to cancel the auto-recirculate button one day (both green LEDs off) and solved two problems:
  1. No more nasty smells on start-up
  2. Much reduced condensation on startup
Give it a try and report back!

You should have the snowflake, the AUTO and the Auto Air Recirc buttons all lit. Is this the case at the moment?

No, the only button that is on is the snowflake, I can switch on the AUTO and Auto Air Recirc buttons, but each time I leave the car for more than about 20 mins they revert to off and I have to remember to switch them all on, but will try this...thanks

You have old software in your car... I had this problem until my dealer updated it.

OK great - by having them in this configuration you'll be letting the condesation sensor do it's thing and keep your windscreen mist free
