wind noise when i hit 55mph
with the fan off, i can hear wind noise coming somewhere from the front dashboard (not the moonroof) when i hit about 55mph. no windy, gusty weather outside, but i can definitely hear air rushing in.
it seems like insulation (or something) is missing... i have a service appointment thursday to sort it out, but i thought i'd check with the group if anyone else experienced something like this?
thanks

Hi Daydok,
It may not be the same problem, but when I had my windshield replaced, the seals weren't installed properly...I heard wind noise (whistling noise) at speeds over 6mph. It did sound like it was coming from the dash...you might see if that's the problem. Good luck.
Kinda sucks though, 'cause they had to remove the entire windshiled and start re-install...and it's never as neat as the original installation.

I had exactly the same problem. The car made a loud whistling noise from 60-80 kmh, but the noise will disappear at higher speeds. This is what happened to my car.
The dealer suspected the windscreen rubber seal, so they took out the windscreen and re-sealed the rubber. This apparently did not solve the whistling noise. Next they taped the door panels and this was apparently the cause, so they adjusted the door panels. The wind noise has now been reduced, but you will still hear some wind noise if you listen carefully.
Hope you can solve yours - let us know what happens.

update: the mechanic rode with me, and he says it's normal to hear the wind noise because of the side mirrors - apparently their shape lends to the wind funneling between the top gap of the mirror stem and the window. you guys buy this explanation?
a buddy of mine has complained about the same problem loud whistle noise more at hgher speeds... like 70+ he took it to the dealer and they cant really identify the problem his car is an 06 530i he's really ticked about them not to be able to find a fix for it... his remedy so far is just to crank up his music.... hope you get a good turn out from your appointment.. let me know if they find any type of fix for yours maybe it'll be helpful for him...
