I doubt it will work, but you could try a test fit, although the tires will be the wrong size as well and it will be more prone to rubbing.

The 5 series XI has about the same offsets as a 3 series (actually a little higher offsets than the 3 series). Look up member "DAS", he has a 5 series XI and he put I wheels on it. The front tires stick out past the front wheel well and it looks odd to my eye. But the guy you are selling them to might like it, who knows.
