I have a 2006 530i with oem 17's. I think it's style 138.
Can I swap my current tires with 235/45/17 (Pirelli P6) tires?
Any potential problems by having a wider/shorter tire?

Maybe ... if you're good with clearance and some minor speedo error ... a 245/45x17 might be closer to the load capacity and dimensions of the original tire size.

Wow thank you Luigi! That was incredibly helpful. What's the app or site you used for those calculations?

I assume then there will be a slight drop in clearance (not a problem since my car is bone stock), but otherwise, installation/fit won't be an issue?

Anyone know if the non-stock size affects noise or ride comfort at all?

Fit (as Lou said) and clearance won't be a problem at all. Also, that's so close to stock, you won't feel a real difference in ride or handling unless you are super sensitive. Technically, you should corner better, but again, you're only adding 10mm to the width. Then again, if you go with a completely different style of tire, say a high peformance summer tire from an all-season, it will sound and feel different. But that's the case on any tire change.
