So i havent checked if i have bluetooth capability by checking in the trunk but im pretty sure i do according to the year of manufacturing. But i dont have a bmw cell phone in my 545 but every so often the cell signal bars appear on my dash display bottom middle section of the screen then it disappears. Im wondering is this because of another bmw driving near mines? Or is this normal? Thanks

 

When you pair a BT phone to the car, it asks for a code. This code is entered in the phone AND the car to confirm that you want to pair the phone, therefore, it's not because there is another BT car nearby.

 

The car has it's own cell phone used for BMW Assist. When no other phone is paired, the signal strength bars for the embedded phone display. The only thing I can't remember is that I think that in later software versions, they may have removed the bars from showing unless a BT phone is paired. Not sure why you sometimes see bars and sometimes don't...

 

I just had the SOS module replaced because it malfunctioned and the code upgraded as well. Now there is a white triangle and the phone icon does not show consistently when it is paired. They did call to tell me the upgrade failed during upload and they had to start all over.

 

I think the white triangle indicatates that you are "roaming" but I remember back on my 2004 car that I'd see that triangle when my old Palm Treo was paired (even though I wasn't roaming).

I guess what I'm saying is that it could be normal, depending on what phone you're using...
