My Ride: 545i - ordered in January delivered April 21st! Black Sapphire Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Maple.

BMW staggers the tires for performance reasons. I think if you went with the same width of tire on the front it would induce less under steer and possibly introduce over steer into the car.
I would try to mimic the tire size by BMW or from a tuner. I believe Dinan does increase the front width on some of his cars.

Just spoke to an Alloy place. They have got the New M5 Replica's and will fit staggered tyres. 18" 245/40 and 265/35.

I'm confused again .... I thought that to fit wider tyres, the alloys would have to be slightly wider, but this guy says he can happly fit the above configuration.

Is he right ?

I strongly suggest you NOT to buy replica wheels, I have read number of people having Vibrations from 40-60 mph with replica wheels. The M5 wheels are 19" and are called M166 which looks the the 18" non staggered M135. I suggest you buy the M172 19" OEM staggered setup, you wont regret it. westcoast550 has a brand new set for sale. You should jump on it. If 19" too much for you then buy the 124 style 18" staggered setup. I have it in my car, and it really looks good, but very 2004 in my eyes......

Unless you fully understand the rim size, offset and other parameters do not buy anything other than OEM!!!

The rim size has to increase for wider tyres. For 172's this is 8.5" at the front (245/35) and 9.5" (275/30) at the rear.

There is a range of tyres sizes that will fit on 8" or 8.5" rims but 265's don't!

.......... Just did an impulsive buy.

Bought some 135's (166's) Staggered 245/35/19 and 275/30/19. I think that its the same Rim for front and back. Guy that sold em to me said that they were fine, but after reading the last few comments .... I'm shitting it !

The ride in 'em seems fine.

Trust me, if you've got the same rim front and back the tyres would of sheared off by now!

Stagger is just for looks and not for performance. The stagger will increase understeer.

Well .... I've bought the Alloys now. The handling of the car has changed, but i'm not quite sure how. Need to do a bit more driving to figure out whats what.

The ride is FAR more comfortable than what I would have thought, as I thought it would be bumpy as hell, but I'm very pleasantly suprised.

Here's a pic:-
