It doesn't seem logical though. What about pre-LCI owners? They can't make the same case. So, therefore, I dunno if one can set a precedence with such argument.
My point is, anyone blacking out a "reflector" is in essence making their car harder to see and people can argue as much as they want, but that's going to go against you in a court of law.

I wonder if these DOT standards for reflectors apply to the new Mercedes, Audi and Lexus vehicles also. I'm curious now. I will have to take a closer look at them. :-)

i can't remember which year they made it standard for all cars sold in the us. If you look at or are familiar with old porsches you can pin point the year they were enforced. The so look like they don't belong on the car because they were added after the car was designed. And pre LCI cars have the reflector built in to the headlight. So a euro sticker is also illegal. There are a lot of weird laws in the DOT book. For example their is a legal height and location requirement for lights, license plates, etc
The secret to painting small obects ( 2 stage only) is to go over it before every coat with some tack cloth. It will actually pull out particles from the paint. Also if you cover it with a large piece of Tupperware between each coat it will reduce the amount of debris. Covering it is mandatory when you do the clear coat because of the long dry time.
I painted this in my backyard.
