Why "RDS" feature only works with 1 key and not another?

I just got CIP V20.xx upgrade and I noticed that RDS now works. Namely, the radio station's name now is diplayed in big letter. I love this feature but it seems to not work if I use my 2nd key.

Another thing I noticed is that my transmission felt a little more "abrupt" after the upgrade from 16.xx, but as soon as I used my 2nd key, it felt exactly the same as pre-upgrade.

Anyway to remedy this?

Yes, most of the i-drive options are key specific

Curious as to the transmission. Znod says 20.xx affected his performance with the Step, curious as to what you think if affects the SMG.

As I have discovered before, the "clutch curve" on SMG's are adaptive. I've noticed that the clutch engage/release is different than before. But if I use my 2nd key, then the car drives the same as before.

I don't know why this is so.

Each iDrive option should work with either key unless, as you imply, the option has not been selected with, for example, one's second key.

Oh you updated speedracer?? Hows the acceleration? Did you feel any difference? Does the car feel heavier?

Since the clutch engagement point changed is it for better or for worse? Whats different?

I think you have to resave the memory settings in M2 if you use the 2nd key to open the car. I was also shocked the other day cause I thought all of my pre-sets in the radio were erased until I realized I was using my wifes key.

I would suggest that you use key #2 for a few weeks. Has it been charged (needs recharge every 6 mos) recently? It probably needs to learn things, but first must be charged.

Cheers,

Unfortunately, saving everything to the second key appears to require resetting everything since you have to start up with the second key to save to it. Does anyone know a procedure for starting with key one and then saving the settings to key two? If there is no procedure to do so, then it looks to me like BMW missed including an obvious good feature. The problem is complicated, of course, because you have to save the alternative settings to the car too.

After the upgrade, the car does feel snapier but jerkier, if you know what I mean. The steering firm up a bit thus contributing to the sensation of a weightier car.

The defaut SMG setting is still comfortable though, only the sport setting feels different.

Regarding the benefit of upgrading, I would say the new RDS feature is very usefull. I listen to FM alot during my commute and its nice to know what station you're listening to. However, you still can't use your voice command to call up a specific station. For example: "Kost FM" is still unrecognizable, you still have to spell out the exact frequency to get your desired station.

Still no MP3, and the lawyer screen doesn't go off in 20 sec.

Go now and get your upgrade
