Why is no one in the USA talking about the use of more diesels to save

Is N2O (Nitrous Oxide - a greehnouse gas) chemically part of NOx (Nitrogen Oxides - local pollutants) or part of NxOx?

Well oxygen is used in breathing.
Yes, I meant N2O.

I just got back from Germany and just one interesting bit of info - I looked out of my hotel window and there were 6 BMWs (6 E60 and 1 E90).
5 of them were Diesels.....

N2O is a pretty strong greenhouse gas, as compared to CO2.
N[sub]2[/sub]O and CO[sub]2[/sub] are global pollutants.

I'ts kind of funny that this discussion is on this site.
We all drive pretty gas/diesel efficent cars, the LCI's are even better.
China just beated US as the most polluting country. Just wait for India etc...
Most US cars are driven by hillbillies that have a Detroit made old tech gas sluggler V8 under the hood.
These pickups and SUV owners + the heavy industy are the problem, not the luxury car drivers!
But someone has to be trendsetters...

Are you saying CARB are wrong to impose tough limits on NOx? (essentially the specific emissions test that current diesels struggle to pass). It's incumbent on manufacturers to meet the limits - not the other way around. The US is a major polluter using a disproportionate amount of energy and resources per capita. We need more states adopting CARB-type regulations, not less. The 2008 diesels should address all of these issues and will be a major step forward in efficiency.
