Hi,

I remember trying this button when I bought the car. The result was a huge airflow and cold air came out from all vents. But when I tried the button today the led did not go on and nothing happened. I do know that the AC is working since it comes somewhat cooler air when I turn down the temperature dial.

Any suggestions or tips?

The air conditioning normally doesn't work below 4 degrees Celsius. This has been true for several cars I've owned in the past. This is probably the reason for the Max button not working. Will have to try it when its below 4 degrees next time.

The "airconditioning" function is present as long as the car is running and the button with the snow crystal has been initiated. However, the use of the compressor to cool the air is reduced at lower temperatures, where there normally isn't necessary to cool the air. Somehow this disables the use of the automatic max. cooling function.

In situations where there is plenty of cold outside air, you do not need this function. When the Max-button is hit, the compressor will work at full throttle to cool down air, as it simultaneously quits sucking external air. This provides for the most efficient cooling of the interior.

I'm not sure at which ext. temperature the max function quits working, but it should definitely not pose a problem.

It refuses to operate at a certain level of outside temperature as BMW530 and paasan explained. It's completely normal, I've too encountered the same feature

A further question regarding the Air-Con/Climate. What is the rest button for & when does it work? I've pressed it a few times & nothing happens & the button does not light up. It's the opposite button to the Max one.

It is the parked-car heating option which can release residual heat into the cabin after stopping the engine, not fitted as standard on UK cars but a retrofit may be available soon through Webasto

First adjust the temp then move the slider and then you press MAX and it will work! I am sometimes messing it up, it is +1 or '2 C outside then I make the windows foggy, but now I know it is the defrost button and the rear so I just all the time leave it on 21 or 22 C and do not touch it, copyright from Iceman

IMU,

Are you sure its not fitted as standard in the UK? It works on mine as I can switch it on after stopping the engine. Maybe its true for the newer E60s now but not 2003/2004 models possibly???

Residual heat button.

Mine is a May '04 build and it works. But it is only operative for a short time after you turn the engine off, then it becomes disabled.

Mine is 03/05 build, and it doesn't work.. Could have been added to new cars, but my experience thus far had me convinced BMW would charge for the kit.
