Another term of "copy" is "learn"
Both German and Japanese car mfr should learn each other to improve quality, performance and handling.
Toyota and Nissan are getting very closed to BMW except prestige and a little of handling.

Do we really want BMW to become like every other Japanese car maker? I only need to open the hood to see the quality of BMW. The technology that went into the engine alone convinced me to purchase a BMW.

We can blame that one on the team from Redmond. Maybe they should have gone to Cupertino.
Absolutely.

The Germans (BMW) are too proud to copy or say they copy anybody. On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with copying what is good and making it better as long as you don't violate any laws. Makes perfect business sense if you're a pragmatist.

I wouldn't call it pride. I would call it hubris.

Bottom line.... Germans make the finest driving machines on earth. I have had several Hondas, Acuras, Toyotas and Lexus.... None of them can be compared to the driving feel of a BMW.

But BMW can't compete with the Japanese when it comes to computers/electronics. In the first 6 months of ownership with my 545i, I had more problems than all my previous cars had in their lifetime combined. BMW shouldn't be proud of this... they should be ashamed.

They should simply accept this basic fact, and figure out how to make their products more competitive in this respect.

The goal of any business is to increase profits. If BMW were to improve the quality of their electronics, can you just imagine how much better their cars might sell? Nearly every time some reviewer writes about a BMW, they praise everything but the electronics. Remove this criticism, and image the possibilities.

I think it's good to look at what the others are doing but to think that Toyota and Nissan are flawless is wrong. Our Toyota has more issues than my 6 year old BMW. It's close to the number of flaws that we had in the X5 but the X5 had much more thought put into it while the Toyota is a mashup of bits and pieces with little or no order. The Nissans aren't that far off either. Just look at how reliable the QX45 has been for people. To quote CR... "Not all Japanese manufacturers did so well, however. Infiniti, Nissan's luxury division, dropped from eighth place last year down to 28th place in Consumer Reports' reliability rankings this year. The Infiniti QX45 was the most unreliable vehicle among all new cars."
