I'm gonna look tomorrow...Inany case, the mat is always riding up on the gas pedal and the back mats have the foam underneath, but they move from the kids gettin' in and out...

Your mats must be different, cause '06 does not have anything that holds the driver's in place. As for the compass, well, it was just a throw in.
For the mats you should have a velcro disc, my 05 had it and every E60 I've seen had it. Your dealer must have missed it on yours, the technician who prepared your car got lazy and didnt install it.
As for other attributes that you ask, ie compass rear view mirror, why? Because its probably a business decision. Adding the compass has very very minimal value added to the majority of the customers so why add it to the cars and increase the cost for BMW? Might be minimal for one car but when you times it by 150,000 it can get up there. Many people find them annoying, I know someone with a Lexus ES that has it standard and hated it and went to the dealer to make them turn it off permanently. How often do you need to know which direction you're going? Roads never travel N S E W anyways.
Look at JetBlue for example. Why are they so successful when every other airline company is struggling to turn a profit. (*minus the meltdown they had in Feb 2007, that's a totally different subject*) Their business strategy is different than others, granted everything they do reduces cost... but they got rid of some useless things that most customers dont care for in the first place and place very little value on. Ie. Airline Meals, everyone knows they're gross and no one likes eating it so get rid of it. Just like BMW, how many people want compass on their car? Not many... so why source them and place them on all the cars? The value added to the customer does not out weigh the cost to BMW.
Oh ya and most have GPS too.

BMW does offer a rear view mirror with compass.
It's in the accessories catalogue.
The reasons why it isn't a standard are allready explained here. Just let me add one more thing: Most countrys don't use N S E W in traffic, and even in the USA many people don't like the compass.
So, making it an option you can add is smart.

I wish I never started this thread...so many haters...hahaha
I also can't stand the emblem, kidney grills, doors, hood, trunk...hahahaha
Guys, I am just joking, except for the Mats. They really do move all over more so up the gas pedal. That's a pain. Deforms the mat too.

(If you don't have them, it's possible that you don't have OEM mats.)
