i wanted a bmw - too many 3 series around which are all kitted up - so went for a 5er with idrive, leathers, PDC, Sat NAV pro, heated seats - as i like electric toys and makes the 3 series slightly infereior to me

I bought my 545i only because I couldn't afford an E92 335i at the time. It was the next best thing.

My 3 series wagon was getting up in miles and wanted the next upgrade in engine, suspension and accessories. Didnt want another 3er also.
Found my 5 series wagon and all paperwork was done in under 2 hours.

Because of my work, I was able to drive the high-end BMWs and MBs. I really liked the driver interface with the BMW and just about everything else. When I had the chance, I bought a 5. I like the 7, but it is better to be driven in a 7. So that left a 3 and a 5. I had to go with the 5!

Loved my E39 540i/6 for the many years I had her.
Performance and handling, plus overall comfort and the "bells and whistles" they have -- had to upgrade to the E60 -- it was inevitable.
