I have a 2007 550i with Nav. I was always able to burn mp3s to a data disk and play it in the main CD player. But up until 2 weeks ago, it no longer can read the disk. And whats real weird is today, it just started playing by itself. I thought it miraculously fixed itself!! But when i turned off the car and turned it back on again, same problem!! "CD not recognized". What the hell is going on? What should i do? My warranty expired.

1.Are these are new CDs (meaning your burnt them new) ? if so check the software you used and burning speed (the lowest is recommended)
2. Use only high quality CDs (like verbatim)
3. Check the cd player using standard audio CDs (not mp3) preferbly OEM
4. If none them work, try to reset the I-drive (search this forum as how to do it)
and finally if you can not get it to work..its time for stealer or Ipod adopter / dension.

No, these are the same pack CDs i've been using for a while. They never gave me problems before.

I'm terrified of messing with the electronics on this car. Especially since my warranty expired. Is it easy to do?

Looks like i may have to do that. How much is it from the dealer?
Thanks for your help

I understand there is a technical question that still needs to be answered and my response will not address that, but its 2011!!!! Get an mp3 player! I didnt think anyone still used cd's
with mp3 players out there that store thousands of songs...

OP try to clean the laser using those "disc cleaners". They are like $5 at any store. Does the cd player make any noises trying to attempt to read the cds when you insert them or no?

Using MP3 player with AUX is a pain. You can't switch the songs without using the MP3 player and it becomes a dangerous hazard. With MP3 CD you can use the steering wheel controls and the MP3 cd sounds much better then AUX.
