My Ride: 530i 2007, Adaptive Headlights (Xenon), Auto AC Extended, Logic7, Bluetooth, PDC
Default

1. Why PDC stays on (and beeping..) after automatic transmission engaged to position P? The car comes to a stand still it's obvious, isn't it? It should have automatically turned itself off, no? Or, maybe, PDC is there to help you also notice someone (or something) is coming towards you as you make final preparations to leaving your car so you can miraculously escape, Mr. Bond.. (?). Strange anyway.

2. Why didn't they put the engine temp/oil/pressure data somewhere?

3. What do I need the (stupid) energy control for? I did bought a car with the white/blue circle and three nice letters, didn't I? If I was so worried about fuel, I'd have probably gone to see my therapist before going to BMW. That way, I could have been buying a nice, fast, fully loaded, less fuel lover Russian car instead. Ha, I didn't..

4. Isn't it time to change the fuel gauge to something more accurate that looks and feels more to the car's standard?

5. Why not indicate which of the wheels is indeed the flat one? BMW must know that cars, in general, do have four of those, right?

I had some more but forgot for now.

Any other thoughts?

1- a bit annoying, but can be turned off with the press of a button so not much to complain about....

2- i wish for temp gauges as well would be alot more helpfull would even stop me from worrying about the car...maybe the can put something in the i-drive in future upgrades..

3- no comment..i dont care about it...

4 - never noticed the fuel gauge is not acurate..perhaps lacks feel a seems a bit electronic, but its one of the most acurate cars ive ever been in..that or all the other cars ive been in are terribele..

5- i think...that at the moment the car cant tell you which of the wheels are flat because it doesnt really know...all it knows is that some wheel has changed shape...

1. it stays there because for a device it is not obvious that you are in your garage or elsewhere, blame mate PDC it saved many lives already you will see, and as mentioned above you can switch it off.

2. I do not need that but hope they will do it for you guys who wants it. W CIP 22 there is in i-drive menu a level of oil though, nice graphs

3. Russian cars are nice the big military ones, the rest R.I.P. BTW the blue-white rotors are simbolising that actually you can fly with that machine. Which energy stuff you refer to?

4. no probs there, did you mean design?

5. It can tell you which one, you are right as far as I remember there is no image that shows that if you refer to that, IMO RFT is not that big advantage I will get rid off them soon, so really does not matter. However never had a flat tires-thx God.

hope you will have as much fun as we do, Windows based sw can go wrong in any dvices so that has nothing to do with BMW engineering, but in that they are the best!!! So far had 0 issues with mine, now cip21 no nav but mp3 plays.

Gadgets I bought the car for fun&driving so I will mod myself the media if I want it.

Yep. Some people have been criticizing iDrive concept or functionality. I like it, too. Not to mention the nice leather touch on the controller..

I believe you're told by exception only.

Seems fine to me?

I believe the new sensors do this? The 'original' system is relative rotational based - I'm not sure if it can be 100% sure which tyre is leaking/flat...

1. It seems to stay beeping as long as something is in the range of the detection. It stays on until you start moving over a certain speed...i don't know...maybe 5 miles per hour. Which is good when pulling out, it will detect if something is in the way while backing out of your parking spot. Mine has detecting someone walking behind the car while I was backing out, which is a good thing.

2. good question. The only reason I can imagine for the lack of temp/oil preassure guage is that the car will tell you when there is a problem and since it is a lux sedan perhaps BMW thinks we don't need it. I wish we had it too.

3. The fuel usage thing-a-ma-jig is cool. BMW has included this on their cars for many years. It is pretty amazing how efficient the fuel usage is when using engine braking with high rpm. I never realized this until my first bimmer back in '99.

4. I rarely even notice the fuel gauge, but refer to the miles remaining to empty, which seems pretty accurate.

5. I think the newer cars do indicate which tire is flat. I had the FTM indicator go off and did not have a problem determining which one was flat...could have been the big hole in the sidewall that gave it away.

Some reasons are that you will be warned if someone is about to bump into you or if someone is about to try to enter your car unexpectedly. But, of course, you may not have enough time to react adequately.

2. Why didn't they put the engine temp/oil/pressure data somewhere?

Amen, sort of. I would like to have oil temp too. But, on the other side of the coin, BMW is trying for clean and unclutter looks. Provided we trust our cars electronics, then we really don't need the gauges. So, lets hope the warmed-up lines are accurate enough.

3. What do I need the (stupid) energy control for? I did bought a car with the white/blue circle and three nice letters, didn't I? Ha, I didn't.

Do I have an energy control? How? Where? If I have it, then it is easy to ignore. So, no problem.

4. Isn't it time to change the fuel gauge to something more accurate that looks and feels more to the car's standard?

Fuel guage fine with me. Seems accurate.

5. Why not indicate which of the wheels is indeed the flat one? BMW must know that cars, in general, do have four of those, right?

Amen.

I had some more but forgot for now.

Any other thoughts?

DVD that allows play of music DVD's. One can get over 400 192 kbps MP3's on a DVD. I tried it, but the DVD's I have made won't play on my 545i DVD player.

More control over the way the Step shifts--mainly being able to shift manually close to, but before, redline.

Being able to unequivocally turn off both DSC and DTC.

Showing the Step gear one is in even if not in M mode.

1. The PDC will not stop beeping if you are in the red zone when the warning tone are constant, if you are in the red zone and the warning tone is beeping fast, the beeping will stop once you put it in P. That's from my observation, you have to try it yourself. I am not really bug by it as PDC are there to warn you of obstacles so if an object is that close (constant beep) than it will get my attention.

2. Don't really need it as I am not much of a racer, most of the time I drive like a normal person. Would be nice if they can add it to the iDrive somewhere.

3. You mean the little needle below your tech that always move when you press your gas? If so than this must be your first bimmer. I've driven 3 and all of them have it so no complaints there.

4. No complaint either.

5. The run flat monitor detects flats by monitoring if one of the wheel is spinning faster / slower then the other three. So impossible for them to tell which one is the flat but the system only knows one of them is loosing pressure.

I will ditch the RFT once they are done so don't need to improve on that and no complaints.

One thing I wish BMW improve on is the fold in mirrors, I wish they fold up like a 7 series instead of folding in like an E39.

I'll add one: change manual mode on steptronic to: UP for shifting up and DOWN for shifting down. I guess, I am too logical at times.
