I priced couple of places for windshield replacement on my MINI and lowest I got was $330 and this was Joe Smoe, I'm sure there must have been lower but thats just what I found;

$350 + tax = $378 was a place that does windshield replacement for another MINI dealer and this was an aftermarket windshield by PPG

but Long Beach MINI (*where I got the car*) Dealer was $405 out? the door so for the price and piece of mind I went with the dealer.

I don't think its possible to fit an aftermarket windshield on any E60 due to its complexity. The wineshield has many features that only BMW offers. The Mini windshield is much cheaper than an E60 windshield. I called 5 dealers here in New Jersey also called about 4 outside shops to get prices.....all 4 outside shops said that they wouldn't even touch it and that i had to get mine fixed from a dealer. The lowest price i got out of the 5 dealerships in Jersey - $1,080 (talk about feaking expensive ) I have a high deductible so i'm stuck paying $1,000 either way. German parts really put a dent in your wallet :'(

Ya I wouldnt doubt that... I'm sure its very complex... but I was just referncing how little difference it is to go aftermarket and to go OEM so with that little difference I rather pay the dealer and rest asure...

I will get the total price breakdown tonight, but like saurabh said, it was close to $1,000, and have the same high deductible.

I would bite the bullet and go for an original BMW windshield if I were you.
And don't you have insurance that can cover this? It is even covered by warranty under certain circumstances. But if it got broken purposely by a family member, tsk. tsk.
