My car is almost at 52k miles and its time to change the transmission fluid since BMW "lifetime" only lasts up to 100k miles ... If go to the dealer to get the transmission pan, filter, gasket, and drain plug it is going to be around $300 or more ... I looked online and 2 companies ZF and Vaico make the transmission pan for the e60 for around $110-$120 includes everything needed ... does anyboody know which company makes the oem transmission pan for bmw or have experience with either brand? Thanks for you help
Also how much liters (fluid) do you need?

You will need approx. 6 qts of transmission fluid, if you are just dropping the pan/filter.

My transmission was missing 3 liters of fluid due to a slight leak in the pan cause by a worn out gasket, so he only topped it off, and now it's smooth as butter.

if you can lose up to 3 liters of tranny fluid, then should the gasket be replaced, at least. I would do a pan and gasket replacement if I was in your shoe.

glad it's working out fine for you...just keep an eye out because I did that once, just replacing the gasket but the leak was still there, a little bit less but still there, only noticeable when you remove the under body cover or if I park it at a down hill angle and the fluid will come out from the edge near the oil filter cover lid section. I ended up ordering the pan and filter and re-do it again, the proper way. I guess it was because my pan was warped somehow.
