Hi I have 2006 530i and i get this whining noise when a/c is turned on. It gets louder as the gas pedal is stepped. Its seems like noise is more noticeable inside than outside the car. Pls help

I have the same car and I also heard the same noise for the past 1 year (it hasn't gotten worse/better in that time).

I have an 07 550. When my AC is on, I dont hear a whining sound but when I'm alone in the car I can hear a sound from the AC that almost sounds like a piece of plastic is caught in the blowing vent. Its very subtle, hardly noticeable, if at all to passengers but drives me nuts.

It actually stopped a couple weeks ago but I recall hearing it for about a month, then nothing...

Sounds like your A/C compressor since when the A/C is turned off the clutch disengages. The bearings are probably wearing out and will eventually fail (requiring either a compressor rebuild or replacement)

I have gotten the same noise in my 08 550i but only a few times.

I agree with AchtungE60. Check the refrigerant level. It was most likely the problem. I had a friend with the same issue and I checked the levels and what do you now it was filled too much. I took some out and the issue was fixed.
