Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone would have experienced this in anyway.
there is a whine when i rev my engine in Park or Neutral and also when i drive off.
It kinds of comes after 1200+/- rpm which sounds like a supercharger.
I would think it has to do with the belt or alternator. (aircon was off and steering wasnt moving)
sounds like an electric pump.
I would test it again tomorrow when the car is dead cold and i turn it on in the morning.
the bad thing is that i bought this car used and only have 3 months warrenty on it. and as of today there is 1 month 20 days left on the warrenty.
If it is a problem, i would need to identify it so that the dealer wouldn't say something like "oh that is normal"
makes me wonder if i made the wrong choice of buying a used bmw =(
2005 525i N52 engine auto with 60000km on the odo.
any advice or troubleshooting tips would be appreciated. thanks.

take it in to the dealer and state the complaint in detail-even if they tell you its normal but something down the line ends up happening related to what the complaint was, even if your out of warranty they should still cover it.
For example I complained of a low coolant level in warranty-they pressured tested and said all was fine. Then a few thousand miles later and I went out of warranty, the problem continued-I took it back in and they found a leak and covered it since I had made the complaint while still in warranty and it was clearly not addressed.

Thanks for the advice diamond, i would pobably do that to keep myself covered just in case.
Nonford,
that sounds way better than what my neighbour said... he said the last time he heard that it was his timing chain on his nissan v35 which was a $3000 job.

BTW, on a 2005 525i you don't have an N52 engine, you have the M54 like mine. The N52 is in models from 06-07.

It probably isn't the timing chain, haven't heard of one failing on our cars. It is more likely the tensioners like Nonford said. I have to replace mine too, it happens.

I only bought the car because it has a N52 instead of a M54

Just an update.
The car just came back with the problem being the oil filter. Apparently the previous service center had a shorter oil filter in it causing the super charger whine when the car is revved.
