Right now I'm trying to prep myself to be in the best position to buy rental property. I've been hitting the foreclosure auctions and I see alot of properties going for dirt cheap. I would like to pick something up.

I've been going over my finances and I see my car as more of a luxury than a necessity so I'm contemplating selling it. I would save the money that I'm paying monthly for a downpayment and to free up some cash flow. Where would be the best place to list if I'm going this route? I was thinking about eBay but that is where people go to look for deals or something cheap. How's everyone's luck with places such as cars.com or autotrader? What about the classifieds here?

Thanks,
Henry

Cannot speak from first hand experience but I recommended eBay to two friends and both were quite happy.

eBay moves more cars than almost any other medium.

It obviously cannot hurt to place adverts in the Roundel and in online forum For Sale sub forums.

Auto Trader.com and Cars.com

I would recommend you return your car to stock and sell the upgrades separately. Yhis will put more cash in your pocket opposed to selling on the hoof. Best of luck

Ebay is definitely the quickest way to sell a car. I would think, from an economic standpoint, that the prices there would have some discount applied to them to compensate for the fact that the vehicles cannot usually be personally inpsected w/in the window of the auction. If you decide to go that route, I would suggest taking the car to a BMW dealer to do a 180 point inspection, and then posting those results with the auction. That should minimize the no-inspection discount you may otherwise take on the car.

I have used cars.com and autotrader.com to find cars before, and they both seem to have a lot of traffic and a lot of turnover (e.g., several cars I looked at one week were gone the next).

There's no risk to using the forums to advertise it, since they are free, so you may as well do that in addition. Maybe you should also post it on Audiworld or ClubLexus or Cadillacforums, that would be funny.

My suggestion is to start with the forums (free) for one week, then cars/autotrader for a week (or two or three or whatever your time frame is), and then hit Ebay at the end, if no one else bites, and when you are ready to get it out the door.

Good luck.

I am 2 for 2 using Ebay to sell cars. I sold my last BMW for $8k more than the trade offer from the dealer.

I listed both on Autotrader, had a few hits, but it was an Ebay "buy it now" purchase that sold both cars.

My advice is to get LOTS of pictures, be very descriptive about maintenance and show that you're a meticulous owner.

I also made the decision to put my private email and cell phone number in the ad - not sure if that is the best idea, but both cars sold after potential buyers called and we talked for 30 minutes and they knew I was a very detail oriented car guy.

If you do use ebay, I highly recommend paying the extra $29.95 for a "featured listing", which keeps it at the front of the list. I would also urge you to think very hard about your real "bottom number" and not try to get as much as you can, but rather, figure out what you really need for the car.

Good luck

Many of the mods aren't even on the car but they would have to go with the car since the body kit is already painted and the 166's are my only set of rims. The exhaust has to go too since it is used with the M5 rear bumper. The SSK and CDV would have to go since I don't have the stock parts anymore.

Right now I'm just kicking the idea around.

I would try the World Wide Web. HAHA I'm 2 for 2 on ebay as well. I used ebay, cars.com and autotrader.com simultaneously and received the most responses from eBay.

You could easily find someone to trade you their stock wheels with cash for your 166s. Same with the body kit. The exhaust would be a little more difficult.

I'm willing to bet some members would be willing to swap their factory parts for your after market parts.

ebay actually is a terrible place to sell a car, if you want a good price!
its the best for exposure.
after that comes Autotrader, then Cars.com

I like to run a 10 day on ebay, simply for exposure, and if the car gets up to my reserve, great, if not, you will at least make contact with truly interested parties. Most ebayrs are a waste of time; deadbeat bidders, people looking for low ball pricing.

keep in mind that the car market is SLOOOOWW these days, be prepared to wait longer than normal for the sale to happen
