My Ride: 2006 BMW 550i
i changed my oil on my 550i myself a couple weeks ago. i havent driven the car much since then. i put in 8.5 quarts of mobil 0w-40, and today i got a low oil level warning. oil level was at the very low end of the dipstick. i added the rest of the 9th bottle of oil plus almost another full bottle to bring the dipstick to the max level. so now, i theoretically have almost 10 quarts of oil in my engine!!
i never did check the dipstick after i did the oil change, as i assumed 8.5 quarts was plenty.
i have absolutely no oil leaks.
were my mobil bottles underfilled?
wierd...

If youre bottles were sealed they will be fine.
How are you checking the oil?
BMW's recommend driving the car until normal Operating tempreture, idling for 15 seconds, switching off for 5 mins, then checking.
Any minor model to model variations are in the handbook.

i didnt check the oil when i did the oil change, i just assumed the 8.5 quarts i put in would be ok.
and yes, today i checked the dipstick after the engine was warm and sat for a few minutes.

8.5 seems to be the correct amount.
Assuming you have no leaks like you say, and you have used the correct viscosity oil so your not burning any, Id just let it settle and check again after a few miles ensuring I hadnt overfilled.
