i think it is painted.
A good paint shop and spray the red part and make it look good.
Tint tarnishes over time and from up close it does not look good.

I got mine sprayed from here: www.jonstintedtails.com.

You can have the entire light sprayed or just the red portion. You can also decide amongst 6 different shades. He finishes off the job with a nice clear coat to keep them shiny and protected. i couldn't be happier.

i know the guys at local shop will do it for 80-100$.

I guess it all comes down to where you get it done and how reasonable they are.
The job is not very hard. i think prepping for the job is harder than the job itself.

Doing the tail lights was one of my first mods, and I can't remember the price... sorry... You can contact SonicMS at 650-691-9000.. ask for Al or Darwin... I mentioned SonicMS becuase if you live in the Bay Area, you can drop your car off in the morning and have them do the tail lights then pick it up later that day. There are other vendors on here that might be able to help you too.. good luck!

you can get tint film. that way if you ever change your mind, you can just peel it right off.
