My Auto Headlights are still confused (or am I?)

When I turn them off manually--such as to use the windshield washer lightly, without invoking the headlight washer, when I try to re-engage them, (by turning the key to position 2, etc.) they don't come on (no green LED). But then, they will mysteriously reappear after leaving them set on Auto, and driving a bit (onto an open highway, so it's not shade-induced).

What is going on? Where is this not-so-sensitive-sensor? Is that what that little protrusion is up on the old center-dashboard speaker grill?

Frankly, if they didn't operate the Marty Feldman Eyes I would never leave them on Auto.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

Thx to our own Recall/Research Rudy ; but I still don't know why on/off for the auto switch is so flaky. It's not at all predictable.

Cheers,
Ray

The automatic turn on/turn off has never really worked that well. I don't know what software you're running but I think they've tried to improve it over the years.

I switch mine to auto when I want them on and switch them back to off when I'm done. That way, I can control things myself and still benefit from "Marty Feldman"

Just my way of describing the adaptive headlights' way of expressing themselves, especially on startup.

After my latest software upgrade (see signature), it has worked correctly for me.

That's what I do too, don't like to turn two clicks to turn on/off my headlights. I never rely on the auto functions on my car except the wiper which seem to perform the best.

It is built into the rain sensor (behind the rear view mirror). If u look at the rain sensor from the outside of the car you will see a transparent/silver circle, thats the light sensor.
