It's always been a "Marmite" thing. You either love auburn or you hate it - very polarising.

BMW obviously did the math(s).

The brown is a good substitute and yields a luxury look. Check it out. IMHO and with apologies, the Auburn was simply hideous for most (me too) and was rightly cancelled. It was like having Ann Margaret's hair color all over the cabin. Actually I'm shocked it took this long to kill it. BMW should have tinted its Auburn color more like the Audi's Amaretto Brown.

We talking Ann Margaret in her prime?

The interior was more like black with only leather surfaces Auburn. Not "all over the cabin". That would be like the "JokerMobile".

When you look at photos it might seem like a bit much. Sitting in the drivers seat, its a nice touch to the mostly black your looking at. Even in the back seat, the front seatbacks are black.

One reason I got it was I wanted an earthtone and the beige in mono tone looked cheap. The gray and black much better. But to me the two tone was great. I would have considered other combos especially beige with black, but it was not offered.

The auburn is not for everyone, not everyone is strong enough to make a bold choice. BMW cancelled it because it is softening the sharp edges and interior of the e60 and playing it safe. Maybe resale has somting to do with it.

I don't give a rats ass who does not like it but I too get lots of compliments and other BMW owners say they would have liked to have seen it live but the dealers did not carry it in stock.

IM glad they discontinued it, less of them to be seen.

The world needs more Ann Margrets if you ask me!

BTW, BMW did give a rats ass and dropped the orange. Apparently all the admiring friends of Auburn owners didn't run out and get one too. Of course whose gonna say your interior looks like sh&t.

Agreed. Ann Magaret was a hottie and now we got Lindsay Lohan.

Same here. It's not a colour that sold. I've only seen one auburn (in a silver grey) and I thought it looked, eh, how should I put it, yeah SH1T that's it.

It's a colour that's market specific. Colours that go well in the U.S. don't necessarily cut it in Europe and vice versa.

Wow, I don't know how to respond. Anyway, I yet to get or hear a complaint about the auburn interior. I guess that ended now with your unkind remark to put it politely.

So because BMW replaced an interior color with a different one for the mid life refresh it means that it was sh*t , was not selling and they couldn't get rid of it fast enough? They also replaced some of the exterior colors for the LCI, are you implying that colors like Silver Gray (probably the most popular and the signiture color of the E60) was also not selling and had to be changed?

The fact is that there are the "standard" colors that are always there throughout the BMW model lineup and are not replaced even when an entirely new model comes out , let alone during the refresh. These are Alpine White, Jet Black, and Titanium Silver exteriors and black and gray and sometimes beige interiors. Other than these "standard" (and sometimes boring and safe) colors everything else is available on a temporary basis for a few years and then is replaced with whatever is hot or in fashion at that time, even if it were selling well (like Silver Gray). For those who like the safer colors, they are always available for you, but for me personally I was tired of the standard "safe" colors that I have had in my cars all my life and the Auburn is a very refreshing and enjoyable change. will I get tired of it?? I'm sure I will just like I get tired of everything else after a few years, but after living with the Auburn for 2.5 years now I still love it.

BMW also had similar colors to Auburn in the E46 M3 (before the E60) and on the X3 and E90 3 series (after the E60). So if they wanted to discontinue Auburn because it was not selling then why offer similar colors on new models that came out way after the E60? I think that colors like Auburn do not hurt BMW sales but in fact may help it because it gives the customer more choice. Remember, unlike some other cars BMW does not tie exterior colors to only one interior color, so no dealer and no customer has to be "stuck with" Auburn because it was the only interior color available on the exterior color that they want. So the dealer and customers don't have to order a single Auburn car if they do not want to, they could always go with the safe black, gray, and beige. So even if E60's with Auburn interiors were only 5% of the total E60's sold in the US, BMW would not be concerned that it is not selling well because they offer other colors that should be selling well already, and Auburn was a bonus for the few that wanted somthing different without taking any of the other "standard" choices away form other people.

And please........it is NOT orange. If you have seen Auburn in person for more than a few minutes then you would know that the orange color that you see in the photos with flash is NOT the real color of Auburn.

I may come back to gray sometime in the future, but for now I hope BMW keeps offering some more interesting yet tastefull colors....both exterior and interior.

Anyone want to buy my Auburn car?

Funny I just went on BMWUSA and they still list Auburn for one of its interior colors... but the picture shown doesnt look like auburn... can someone explain?

I'm not even going to argue for or against Auburn. I have it and I love it. I too have not had one complaint.
