I've had my 550 for 3 weeks. I guess that for alot of people the extra 20 or 25 grand for the M5 is not that big a deal. The other thing is the very inexpensive leases BMW is offering on the 525 and the 530.
I love my 550 so far. I have added the 20" Agio wheels from EuroRev. I will get the Mtech body kit in the next couple of weeks. I'm waiting for Dinan to come out with the throttle body, intake and exhaust.
A little extra power and a more aggressive sound to the exhaust and the car will be perfect.

Don't forget about the chip tuning aspect too. Several European companies have already come out with them and a showing good gains, close to 390hp with the chip alone. I am sure that Dinan is probably not too far off with one of their own too.

Different story hear in Seattle. I'm off to Europe next week to pick up my long awaited 550i. My girlfriend and I are consequently always keeping a keen eye out to spot 550s and M5s. I work for an affluent software company so perhaps my perspective is a little skewed; but I've seen ~7-8 distinct 550i's, and 3-4 M5's (e60).

Both bum me out until that energy turns into anticipation for my new ride. I'm lucky the weather's been nice for the Z3.

The stat that the 550 finally outpaced M5 sales says a lot. This is a niche, not a mass market car. There are probably 3 or more 525/530 etc. sold for every 545/550. Start looking for one with a 6 speed and, as is often stated by my dealer, they are as rare as the proverbial hensteeth. Indeed, I cruised through his lot over the weekend, and there was not a 550 to be seen (a couple of 6ers though..) along with all the 525 and 530s.

In a sense, that's why I have always liked them: STEALTH. Most have no clue as to what lurks under that accelerator, and over the past decade, most just assume it is merely a status symbol. That's fine with me, the lower the profile, the less the cops will notice.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

I think most people do buy the 525 and 530 for their phenomenal lease rates that they give here in the States and also if you load up a 550 you can almost get into a 7 series which might be another reason people dont get them. Im happy with the 550 and I like that I have only seen a handful of 550's in NY so far... I like being unique.
