My recently purchased E60 came with wheel locks installed. I asked the dealership (1.5 hr away) to send me the key and they sent me the wrong one. Subsequently, my salesperson told me it will have to be taken care when I bring it in next for service. I don't want to wait that long. I want to change out the pads to Axxis Deluxe and paint the rusty nasty looking little clip covers.

Could anyone tell me what type of locks these are so I can contact the company (to get a replacement key)?

Thanks for the help

That's a standard OEM style BMW wheel lock.

I had the same issue. When the dealership sold me my car, they forgot the wheel lock. The installed new brakes & rotors, so the mechanic must have forgotten it on the shelf.

When I called the dealership, they mentioned that there are only 12 different locks so I had to bring the car into the dealership and they tried the 12 keys before finding the correct match. The key isn't very expensive.

Are you sure you checked your car thoroughly for the wheel-lock key? It might be with the tools in your truck, dashboard, side door pockets or in a cup-holder...

Yeah, I looked a couple of times. I guess it will have to wait until I bring it in after all.

Thanks for the help!

You should check your trunk where the spare is really well. I heard from my tire guy that European cars, specially BMW's hide the key by the spare. I took my car in to patch a flat on my factory and told them I did not have the key. They searched my trunk really well and wah la.......found the key. I didnt have to drive all the way to the dealer to get another one. But you can take it to the dealer and let them fit, it doesnt cost much at all. GL

They look just like the locks I have on my car. There are two different types of BMW wheel stud locks: Standard and security. The standard version has one key, and the security version has multiple keys available.

The part number for the standard lug bolt set is 36 13 6 786 419

I was unable to buy just the key and had to get the whole set. The set of four lug locks cost about $30 IIRC, which was cheaper than having the dealer take them off for me.

Give Garry Romani at Newport BMW, 401-847-9600 ext 2448, or GRomani@bmwofnewport.com, mention E60.Net, and he'll give you a 25% discount and reasonable shipping prices.
