I will shortly be installing a set of 166s on my 535i .. so I wanted to know what types of wheel locks I would need based on the following criteria
1. Seat Style (ie. Cone or Ball Seated)
2. Thread Length
3. Thread Size
I found these on ebay that I am thinking of picking up
Wheel Locks
What do you think guys ?

In my opinion the Mcgard locking bolts are superior and are used as OEM fitment.

I bought the upgraded kind at my local BMW shop. They're black and flat top. Matched my current lugs. There's more combinations and has a slip ring around it so thieves can't twist it out with pliers or something else. They have a cheaper set too.

Cone.
25mm thread length ( for OEM wheels).
M12x1.5 thread.
If the wheels are replicas, some come with a different length bolt to standard , then you need to measure the thread length yourself.
If you are serious about security then you should care about the brand!

Are wheel locks really that effective? When I had the new wheels put on my car, I bought it used, we discovered that there were wheel locks on it and we couldn't find the key. Less than 10 minutes later one of the guys had all 4 wheels off the car without damaging the wheels. I'm pretty sure that if someone makes a habit of stealing wheels they know how to defeat the locks too. Granted locks may stop the opportunistic thief but not a serious one. I have thought about locks too but knowing how easy it was for that guy I have a hard time justifying the expense. Yea, I know the locks would cost a lot less that one wheel but again if someone really wants them they are going to get them.

Are wheel locks really that effective?
BMW fit the Mcgard type as standard in the UK and they are effective.Cheaper, different designs such as the example shown by the OP are not,in my experience, effective - I have removed that type quite easily (and legally,on my daughter's car after a mechanic had lost the key) but ,for obvious reasons I'm not going to give details.
