Using my style 116's for winter tires and will replace with the style 124 8" around. I performed a seach of this site and I've utlized the wheel size indicator that was provided...thank you. It appears there is little difference in the overall height of the wheel/tire combo of 225/50/17 vs 245/40/18 but I wanted to ask of anyone who has made the change, if you had noticed or thought there was any noticable difference in Wheel Gap. I'm okay with the present wheel gap and want to keep it close to where it is without any additional mods.
Thanks,
Fogger

Fogger,

I made the change from stock 138s w/ 225/50/17 to 124s w/ 245/40/18 fronts and 275/35/18 rears. The aspect ratio is the same and the gap is almost identical. The heights are as follows:

50% of 225 = 112.5mm/25.4 = 4.43 inches X 2 = 8.85 + 17 = 25.85 inches
40% of 245 = 98mm/25.4 = 3.86 inches X 2 = 7.72 + 18 = 25.72 inches
35% of 275 = 96.2mm/25.4 3.79 inches X 2 = 7.58 + 18 = 25.58 inches

Cheers.

CSW530,
I'm not familiar with aspect ratio but your numbers make sense and the difference is miniscule and no worries...thanks for the quick response.

Actually the 50, 40, and 35 are the aspect ratios, which is the percentage of the tire's width that makes up the sidewall's height. What I meant to say is that in the various widths and aspect ratios demonstrated, the diameter will be roughly the same. No matter the terminology, you are correct, the difference is insignificant.
