Can anyone tell me how they rate the 525i. does the 2.5ltr 184 hp have enough get up and go?

Funny. We have similar specs.

While I think everyone in here would love to have the 530 or 545, the 525 is just more affordable. I really wanted a car with the Nav, sports pkg, and premium pkg. So the car was heading near $50,000/USD and that's pushing it for me.

I test drove a 525i with the sports pkg and it did have enough "get up and go" for me. Especially in the sport mode.

Someone that's coming off of driving an M5 may not think so, but it works for me. I am coming off of driving a Porsche Boxster.

my 2.2l does the business when you pop it - albeit with a slight pause... the real power souce, and when i need it myself most often is on the motorway and believe me, push the pedal past the point of resistance and she can really rocket

i would have loved the 3l or better, and petrol is not an issue as it is paid for (non-personal, only) but the step up with the same spec would have meant ?60/month extra off the paycheque (to cover exceeding my allowance: allowed, at my cost) AND at least another ?60-80+ tax hit...

combine that with the mileage (29.7mpg according to the obc, so i reckon more like 25-26 which ain't bad) and it is not so bad --

bottom line is the 2.5l should be fine

I would agree - the 525 is doing just fine for me too!

a 530d would've been nice - but adding all the other options on would mean that the car would cost quite a bit more!

Drive it and see - I'm sure u'll be pleasantly surprised!

I drove the 525 also and chose the 530. If you can afford it, do it.
BTW, over 35 mpg on the highway at 80mph.

I have driven the 530 auto and the 525 manual. Now, I have been driving an SUV and an '86 caprice classic that last three years, but the 525 really was enough. No you don't jerk back when you press the pedal, but you do accelerate and before you know it, you are over 80mph. The 530 would be nice because of resale and all, but for everything that I want with the car, and since this is my first 5 series. I don't have a problem starting at the bottom. I can afford a 530, but I am trying to be more financially responsible, and I can easily put that extra $100/month elsewhere to benefit my wife and I in the long run.

Cost aside, I was pleasantly surprised by the 525, and I am going for it. I plan on driving a 530i manual just to make sure I am not truly cheating myself, but I didn't notice anything between the 525 I drove and the 530. That could be because I was able to choose my gears in the 525, and not the 530. Also, I do NOT plan on driving the 545...why tease myself. If you plan to keep the car, it is all about what you will be happy with. If you plan to sell the car, then the 530 is the more popular model, but if a 535 comes out then, that will lessen the value of the 530 and 525. There are a lot of factors, but drive both and see.

I plan on getting a 2005 Alpine White/Auburn 525i, Nav, Bluetooth?, Premium, Cold Weather, Sun Shade, and maybe PDC. Congrats to all who have ordered or taken delivery. The wait is killing me!!!
