Silly question, but wheres the front number plates gone? do you take them off just for the photo?

I suspect Image->Adjustments->Shadow/Highlights and crank the Midtone contrast all the way to the right.

Convert the files using Adobe Lightroom or Apple Aperture first, then edit them in Photoshop CS5.
