When i'm in gear at a constant speed then hit the gas, my rpms climb, but the car doesn't accelerate as fast as normally. Then the rpms drop and reclimb if I continue to hold down the accelerator and the car accelerates as normal. Just to clarify, I was on the highway going around 80 in 6th gear so about 2700 rpms then i floored it and the rpms went up to 5000 went down to maybe 3200 then steadily climbed with full acceleration. Honestly, I have no idea what is going on. I don't think it is the clutch slipping as it is already in gear, but I don't really know. It kind of feels like an automatic that would upshift so the rpms would drop then accelerate. HELP.

From your description, I'd say there's little question that you have a slipping clutch...

I agree with Rudy, I had the same exact thing happen when my clutch was going. I would get that checked out ASAP

I agree with all above. Whether it's in gear or not doesn't mean the clutch isn't slipping. If you are in gear and accelerate with no response, except in RPM's alone, it's your clutch. I've had it happen as you describe on 2 of my past rides...clutch both times.

Time to pull out the wallet!

How much would one expect to be quoted for a clutch exchange @ the BMW dealer?

I noticed that some people got this replaced under the new car warranty. What are my chances of getting the same treatment?

Is your car still under the original factory warranty? If so, then you probably have a shot at it. If you have an extended or CPO warranty, then all bets are off...
