Will pick mine up in a week so I will chime in later. I asked my uncle, who has been a BMW mechanic for over 20 years, about the break in period. He said not to worry about it, in fact they find that cars that are driven harder tend to have better performance than those that are not. He said it is impossible to over rev the car while accelerating but it is possible to do so while decellerating (downshifting).

I stand to correct myself. Previously reported all is well. Went in today for a cupholder check...realized drivers side cupholder like to pop up cups and angle them to the right (30 minute fix, I was quoted) and came out with them finding a major oil leak and I was over a quart low. 2005 530 SMG is not yet three weeks old. Yikes. So I am now the proud temporary owner of a 3-series wagon all weekend because they doubt they can diagnose and fix before they close today. (I went in at lunch).
Service guy stated "It's leaking so much and there is so much oil everywhere, it will take me some time just to clean it up to start looking."
I'm getting a bad feeling.
