It all comes down to this:

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!

Anybody here who says they would rather have a 525 over an M5 if they had to choose, cost NO object, is a big phat liar...

But I have to be completely honest with you, I would get a 330 over a 525 easily, even though it is quite small for my needs.

Negative, a highly tricked 1987 951 (944 turbo). Custom 3.1 ltr turbo motor is in the works...weight approx: 2470lbs & the motor when finished should produce around 600-650 at the wheels. working on sourcing PCCB (ceramic brakes) currently for road use.
Talking about killer cars. Niiiice

Plus I like the fact I can pull away from almost anyone in my BMW, and those I can't in it my Porsche will definately blow away. I like the ability to quickly escape anyone period.
Hey, don't let that Afghan environment get to you. PTS if you know what I mean. When you're in the States, you're pretty safe from the enemy. , at least on streets.

Well I am happy with the power output of my car (although if someone offered to buy me an M5 I wouldn;t turn them down).

I am more than satisfied with my 545, power-wise. It is the fastest car I've ever owned. I live in NYC, and I don't need 325 hp and 330 lbft torque 95% of the time. Its only during odd hours when traffic is light or when I drive out of the city that I can take advantage of the power.

I was preparing to get a 530 last year, but when the BMW had the crazy lease rates for the 545 that made it cheaper than a 530....well then might as well get the 545 right?

I'm thinking of doing some autocross and track events when the weather gets warm, so I expect to take much more advantage of the V8 engine then.

Furthermore, who in the world can actually use all the power of their car? I know in California, I sure would not want to get stopped doing 150mph. I believe they impound your car, and strip you of your license at that speed, and risk a felony reckless driving charge. For sure, if you did it once, got caught, you could not do it again, unless you have a ton of idle cash for a good attorney.
Maybe its not about top speed and going 150mph. Maybe its about acceleration. I don't go over 100 mph that often, but I do reach 80 mph very quickly

Me too, i'm more than pleased with how my car delivers and how the engine pushes and pushes. Also i have good mileage considering i drive most of the time in city, so torque here is really my best friend. The thing that i don't like that much is the sound but hey it's just fantastic as it revs up, not too dieselish but at low revs form the outside you can still tell it's a diesel. I'm ok with it since the engine gives me SOOOO much more in return. I only would have wished 1000-1500 rpms more and that would have been perfect. Meaning the engine to still deliver at 6000rpms in the same rythm. That would have been even better, almost making me not want anything else.

PS: ALMOST!!!

IMHO most cars have an optimum power level - below which they feel underpowered, above which the chassis is over over-whelmed.
With the E60/E61 we are very fortunate that the chassis is so good it can take lots of power.

However, the most fun I have ever had on the roads has been on twisty hill roads with a great handling but underpowered car, driving to the limit flat out. Covering the same road in my 530d was actually LESS fun, as could only "light the fuse" for tiny bursts - and too wide and heavy for the tight bends. 5 series great for A-roads and long journeys, but buy a Lotus for the smiles
