What's the deal with wanting more Engine Power? 525-530-550-M5? Wh

well if you are really concerned for the envoirnment you either
1) buy a solar powered car
2) buy a lowly 5 series like the 525i that has very reasonable emissions (181g/co2)... although people's perceptions might not be very good, they might think of you as just managing to buy an e60...
On a side note as someone already said power is addictive

I bought my 06 525i in November and already looking at getting 07 530i (Maybe 550i...we'll see). I have owned many cars before and never felt the way I do about this car. There is definitely something about BMW that makes you want to get more power...I wish I could answer your question...but one thing I can say is that this forum is not helping either the more you read about the one you don't have, the more you want it

I guess if we are getting a BMW, it's not a matter of "need". It's a matter of "want". As many of you have previously stated, why not get a Kia or Toyota if you just need to go from point A to B?
IMHO, people who go for BMW primarily because of 1) prestige, 2) driving dynamics. Obviously, the higher the model the more satisfied the owner would be. So yes, if I have tons of money to spare, I would go for an M5. But in my case, practicality also kicks in due to family. I need a safe vehicle to maneuver during the winter weather so I picked the xi. If I were in Florida, I would have picked a 550 with less options.
Again, if I have tons of money, I would go for a M5 for summer, and a 530xi for winter.

The grass is greener on the other side . . .
Human nature = the need for speed/power . . .
We call want to be the best/look out for number 1 . . .
With regards to material things, life's too short to settle for less when you can have more. The point: While reaonable people can control themselves, the ego continues to project "avaritia" or it's greedy side to others.
"Get that one, it's better and doesn't cost that much."

Power is addictive. Our cars are in a way, a description and image of a part of ourselves. The side we like to show to society, to attain status/impress/show off etc.
I drive a 550 because I feel that power is your greatest asset in getting yourself out of an accident. If I can accelerate past/through a problematic situation, I will come out on top. If this approach isn't feesible, then thats where I seek the vast resources that lie within the braking system. Either way power is safe, if used with discipline and skill, to either out accelerate or out brake your opponenet/obstacle.
Plus I like the fact I can pull away from almost anyone in my BMW, and those I can't in it my Porsche will definately blow away. I like the ability to quickly escape anyone period.

So why do we lust after the biggest engine, knowing fullwell, we will never use all the power?
