Dont really want to mess with something that seems to have no effect. "Dont rock the boat baby.."
Lighting related? For turning fogs on without lights on (some people like to do that).

Don't flick that switch!

Can y'all ever be serious? The guy needs help.
To the OP: it's obviously the flux capacitor.

Maybe an O/I or mute switch for a radar detector?

You'll need to see what, if any wires there are going to it. You may need to remove the shift boot and panel to release the button from the backside. Probably a screw on plastic "nut" to hold in place.

Good Luck. Update us on the mystery!

In all seriousness, I was thinking the same thing. Or some sort of auxiliary light anyway. Maybe one under the bonnet? Might want to just have someone flip it a few times as you walk around the car. In any case, I don't see a need to remove it. It's not something most people would notice as odd or consider unsightly.

I've got one more suggestion. It might disable the interior motion infra-red sensor of an after-market alarm (for when you want to leave the sunroof open but still alarm the car).

I have installed many similar looking "momentary on" switches on all of my cars that did not have a built in garage door opener.
