I am guessing you are not the original owner of your E60. The reason you cannot find that switch in the owners manual is because that is not a BMW installed switch. Previous owner must have added it but I have no idea why.

I would get in touch with the previous owner from the log book and ask them, it doesnt look like a standard bmw fitment. You have a right to know what has been retrofitted to the car you now own, most people wont mind if you call them.

I would guess that it is gear related with it being situated just behind the shifter. Let us know what you find out.

Good luck.

It looks professionally done I actually thought it was BMW. No chance of finding or talking to the previous owner im the 3rd now. The switch seems to do nothing at all. im going to prise it off and see if it got any wires running to it

This is my first BMW and for the record what a car. beautiful, sleak and suprisingly quick for a 4cyl diesel.

Ill post my findings...

Maybe aftermarket non-visual (only the warning noise) PDC? Not hooked on the reverse so you would need to trigger it manually with the button.

Otherwise I cannot guess anything else. Let us know when you find out what it is.

Car has PDC though.

Any ideas for prising it off? Dont really want to mess with something that seems to have no effect. "Dont rock the boat baby.."
