wolverine, it's hard to tell what you're saying vs. what you're quoting. Is the whole thing the quote?

Can you edit things to help us out?

Sorry, first sentence is mine, then the quote, then I start again with "Now we need to add the next three categories"

BMW got this one right! The car is amazing in the snow with just all season tires. It would have to be almost unstoppable with winter tires. It's not hard to get the antilock breaks to kick in though, my wife hates it when I play around

I wonder how many days it snows in England, probably two or three. In this case, just park your car, I wouldn't recommend driving with summer tires in snow, you will not get anywhere.

I have snow tires on my 545 and I get around just fine. I drove my wife's Acura today, which is front wheel drive and has A/S tires, and we got stuck in a parking lot at a restaurant. It took a good while to get out. So, to those whos say RWD with Snows is better than anything without snows, you are definitely right.

I have to drive my E60 in the snow this morning, to get to work.

I wonder how 245 runflats will go. Wish me luck!

The roads are clear, so things should be fine. Just need to watch out for slippery patches, as it's minus 2

Many of you guys on here are used to driving on snow, in England when it snows the country grinds to a halt. I'm a bit? worried what my 530D going to behave like, with? 275/35 18" Bridgestone S03s, hard dynamic drive, auto and 620nm torque at only 2000 rpm.

Any suggestions.

It was very difficult to drive on my 17'' Bridgestone's when we have snow in London last year. I changed to Vredestein 18'' winter tyres for this season and had a perfect driving on snow in the Alpes.
It does not make sence to change for winter tyres if we have snow once a year. But Bridgestoone Potenza is a summer tyre so do not expect that it is good on the snow.

Why would you go with 18" winter tires when you have 17" Bridgestones??

My Ride: 2010 E63 AMG -- Palladium Silver/Black. Love this car but looking to switch things up to keep things fresh. 2nd AMG in a row, but toying with coming back into the BMW fold!

To be succinct, the E60 "sucks" in the snow. BMW AWD is a long time coming in the 5 series. Now it needs to be offered on the 545i / 550i V8 cars.

However, snows all around, at least allow you to limp around when necessary.

Personally, I would loose the 275s for the winter and get some 225 - 17s for ultimate grip.

So here's the question: Assuming both will have snows, would you get a 545i, a 530xi (with the new more powerful engine), or wait for next year's anticipated 550i?

I Have driven 530d with autotranny in wintery conditions. The car was equipped with excellent Nokian Hakkapeliitta 4 studded winter tyres.

Driving was fun and full of grip. Of course the car outpowers the tires anytime, so you have to be careful though.

Without DSC, slides are long and smooth as long as you apply throttle, but at the very moment you ease off - grip is instantly back. That sudden stop from powerslide can surprise at first, but once you get used to it - no problem.

Tire size was "European original" 225/55/16
