Well, somewhere around 32-33 mpg. Im in an '04 530i with around 50,550 miles. It was all highway driving...at 50 mph.

So I was driving home from San Francisco yesterday and around Hollister and Casa De fruita where they just put in the new over pass, I hit a very very very large pot hole and blew out front driver side tire. Called BMW Roadside Assistance to put on the spare, which is a donut, and you cant go over 50 on. Im bringing in the car tomorrow to have the tire replaced, and check to make sure nothing else was damaged when I hit the pot hole.

Any idea if I should have taken it to an independent store and purchased the tire and have them do it rather than taking it to the dealer? Dealer is charging me $395 plus tax for the wheel and installation.

Also would it be possible to sue the state for not fixing the pot hole?

I am very surpised but I average 22-27 MPG, mixed highway and city/street driving.
Long highway is 28-30.
Never thought a car this size would deliver that kind of mileage.

Almost 20 mpg in city driving in a 545?? Incredible.

Must be that RPI hood scoop.

What is your secret? Feather touch on the gas?

Former (as of 12/31/08 crash) 530xit:

Suburban cycle: ~20.5 MPG (US Gal.)

Highway (CT to CO) ~24.0 MPG at 75-to-85 MPH
My new 535xiT with less than 1,000 miles gets ~17.4 MPG combined cycle - and I have been soft on the loud pedal so far. However, that is up from 12-to-14 MPG the first week. I sure hope it will get better.

Today shows 12.2 l/100km (19.3 mpg US), that's one tank average.

Average since I bought it is in my signature (19.8 mpg US).
