There are a lot of nuances to this question. If one has one vehicle, as I do, the 550i serves more purposes. The M3 is more fun to drive. The 550i is the better sedan. The M3, to be thoroughly enjoyed, should be a coupe. The M3 sedan is an inadequate compromise. Maybe a better question would be: which is the better coupe: the M3 or the 650i? To me, that is a more interesting conundrum to resolve.

I'll probably get an M3 next. I don't need the extra room of the 550i, even though I do like the size better than the 3. My 550i has become boring....so go for the M3 if you are looking for more excitement.

M3 is bad ass....if i had the cash i'd trade in my 545 for an M3.

This is easy, M3 all the way - except for 2 things, 1) I am 6'4" so the 3er is too damn tight for me, and 2) I have kids and they need to sit behind me on occasion. So my answer is 550, no problem. If I was single and smaller - M3 without question, so if that is your situation GET THE M!!!

M3 bro

I have almost this scenario in my garage. My wife has a 2008 M3 Sedan and I have a 2008 535 M-Sport with a Dinan Stage II. Now, I don't want to bring up a 535v550 debate but I think that my car is very comparable (or maybe better  ) to the 550. Having both, it is hands down the M3. It is just a far sportier car. Much more rewarding driving experience. And the room issue is not really there. We have two kids and they have a little more room in the E60 but not enough to make that much of a difference. I am always asking my wife to trade straight up but she keeps saying no.

But M5 is much more expensive than M3. For the same $$$ as the 550, the M3 offers more speed and power. |

He he he. So I guess that explains by 550.
Pass the Geritol. C'mon, you know you love your 550, but we would ALL prefer the M5. I don't mind being called old, if I have the M5 - I will still dust the young'uns |
