It has been a long time since my last post. I wanna know all your opinions. What would you guys rather buy if y'all had about $70k, an M3 or a 550i. Honestly I am not sure which one I would take.

A M3 is much mich faster than a 550 (the acceleration numbers on the M3 are the equal to the M5 according to th major car mags) and its handling is more responsive than that of the bigger 550.
The only reason to get the 550 over the M3 is if you need the extra size of the 550.
As much as I love my 550, if I did not have a wife, a son and a dog and be limited to one car at a time, I would have gotten the M3 instead of my 550. 550 is a great car. But it lacks the heroic performance of the M3. 550 is fast. M3 is blazing.

M3 every time.
Power/Looks/Street Cred/drive.
The only reason you need the 550i over it is if you need to bring 4 people around in luxury.
They are 2 completely different cars and personally I don't see the need for a 550i in any case.
I know the in US there is a mindset to have the big engine whereas other countries can get the horsepower required without the massive 'cc'.
I don't think I've seen a 550i in Ireland. It would be seen as crass.

If I was car-less and had $70k burning a hole in my pocket I'd buy a 545i for under $30k and leave the rest in the bank. Spooky, that's just what I did

But in reality, for the size of the engine, the power output of 360 bhp is modest. BMW could have easily tweaked it to over 400 bhp.

I love my "crass" 550. Thre is no substitute for cubic inches and the sound of a V8.

I just had this option and ended up with a 2009 550i. I liked the M3, but coming from a 335i Sport, I wanted something a little bigger. I liked the power of the M3, the head turning looks, the handling... but did not like the back seat room. The 550i gave me enough power and the room I wanted, plus the sport package gave me the ride I wanted. More refined than the 335i, yet still sporty and responsive. I honestly like the ride of the 550i over the M3 and 335i.
Have not had a second thought about it since...
