M3 every time.
Power/Looks/Street Cred/drive.
The only reason you need the 550i over it is if you need to bring 4 people around in luxury.
They are 2 completely different cars and personally I don't see the need for a 550i in any case.
I know the in US there is a mindset to have the big engine whereas other countries can get the horsepower required without the massive 'cc'.
I don't think I've seen a 550i in Ireland. It would be seen as crass.

No kidding. A friend of mine just paid 25K for his 15,000 service interval.
What does he have, an Enzo with ceramic brakes?

OMG. You gotta have an M car in your life. Jeremy Clarkson reckons every petrol head/ gear head should own an Alfa Romeo in their life at one point. I disagree, I think it should be an M car (Alfas are garbage). Even if it's just to let you know that fun though they are, you'd rather have a lazy V8

I would love to have an M but the thing is, I tend to keep the car for a good period of time
and M is more tend to be broken/unreliable than normal BMW. And reliability is not the
strong point in BMW. For me, having a V8 BMW is enough for me to satisfy "go" part.
And although M handles like a dream, a normal bmw with sports pkg is enough for me.
Oh and New M3 doesn't really outpower the 550i. The acceleration difference is more down
to the gearing. M3 has a very agressive gearing while 545/550 has super tall gear ratios.
That's only thing I don't like about my 545i. But with about $1k I can swap the rear end ratio
to more aggressive.
