I would agree that a V8 has a lovely noise.
However when you think that a "small" 4.3 litre scuderia 430 is a V8 putting out 483hp (never mind the massive difference in power to weight between a 550 and the scuderia) you can see that 360 HP is embarrassing for an engine that size.

Europe seems to measure power by HP and the US by literage.
Naturally enough Europe is correct.

But do keep in mind that Ferraris are not made to be daily driver/high milleage cars.

No kidding. A friend of mine just paid 25K for his 15,000 service interval.

By Brother in Law has a 360 and he also recently had his first maintenance which was close to $20,000

Lots of sweeping and unsubstantiated generalizations there...

The 550 powerplant is effortless and unstressed, it's highly tractable and pulls incredibly hard. Its specific output is perfectly appropriate for its intended usage.

Comparing the engine in the F430 to any BMW powerplant is almost a complete non-sequitur, you're comparing apples to oranges.

Totally different powerplants, built for totally different purposes and totally different in their characteristics.

Right. Comparing a 550i engine to a F430 engine which develops more than 100bhp/litre isn't right. Those are highly tuned race engines practically and are living on the edge. That person that mentioned the 25K for a Ferrari engine service isn't exxagerating. That's perfectly normal. These kind of headline BHP/Litre engines are a lot closer to Formula 1 engines (which need rebuilding after each race weekend) than they are to a lazy V8 developing a comfortable 367bhp.

OMG. You gotta have an M car in your life. Jeremy Clarkson reckons every petrol head/ gear head should own an Alfa Romeo in their life at one point. I disagree, I think it should be an M car (Alfas are garbage). Even if it's just to let you know that fun though they are, you'd rather have a lazy V8 ^_^
