The fact that you've gone up 2 inches in rim diameter puts you squarely in low-profile tire territory, with all the attendant ride stiffness that comes with it. You say you don't want it to ride rough yet the plan is to also lower it (lower springs are always stiffer) which will make it ride even rougher. Sounds like what you're asking is whether you could fit a higher profile tire like a 40-45 series on these rims without interference. If so, that'll mess up your speedo as well as make the car slower.

I compromised for mine and went with 18" rims with 245/40R18 Continental PureContacts for reasons of smoothness as well as them being very highly rated for noise and traction in the wet. Even with the standard springs I find 'tire gap' to be perfectly acceptable for a daily driver.

I've the same tyre sizes ( except 275 rear ) on 172 19's. I've tried vredestein ultrac sessanta and goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric. both great, goodyears have great dry feel but their wet performance is outstanding always track perfectly at speed, we get a lot of rain in ireland. they're super quiet and last well too

I'm running 19's right now on my e60. I like the "meaty fitment" look so here is what I'm running.
Front: 245/45/19
Rear:275/40/19
These size would be perfect since you're gonna install springs too. Tires will fill up the gap more and springs will kill the gap too.

Thats because of the tires. The ride on my 335i at 100+ is pretty rough whereas my 535i gets up to 155 so smoothly and effortlessly with the Michelin PSS.
155mph in my 535i is smoother than 100mph in my 335i - I attribute this huge difference to the Michelin PSS tires.

They're truly game changing tires and you will never want to own another set of Ultra High Performance tires other than the PSS after you use them a few times! Before I got my PSS's I figured tires were simply tires and ALL ultra-high performance tires would be virtually the same.
After purchasing MPSS's I realized I'd never been so wrong in my life. I swear by these tires!

Its hard to find a bad review about these tires. The improvement in ride quality is unbelievable. Michelin killed it with these tires - I love seeing the faces of passengers in my 535i when its wet out and I hit sharp corners at 30+ mph. Priceless!
Speaking of priceless - PSS's are underpriced IMHO. They're by no means cheap, but I would pay 2x what I did to have these tires again.

You sold me on PSS. Will definitely buy them and try. How is the tread life on PSS. How many miles they last? Thinking to get 255/40/19 and 385/35/19 for OEM m5 rims. Rear fenders are rolled but stock suspension. Do you think I may rub on these sizes?
And what tires do you recommend for light snow and ice in winter?

As for brand and model/style ... I recommend the best tire (based on credible reviews, and 'expert' opinions) your wallet can stand - it's the only thing between you and the road!

The offset for the all wheel drive e60 is high 35-43 ... and the slight difference on the wheels you mentioned should be OK but you might need to consider shopping for centering rings to move it up 5-10mm for a better look.

Why do I need center rings? The shop that balanced my car asked the same because I mentioned to them about the vibration but after they took my wheels off they said I don't need the center rings.

They have a treadwear of 300 which is better than other ultra-high performance tires. On my 535i with a staggered wheel set-up the fronts last ~35k miles and the rears will last ~20k miles because the tires can't be rotated.
I also drive my car pretty hard so that certainly wears the tires down much quicker than normal driving.

I'll have my 335i up in Colorado in a few months and when I get up there I will be buying some steelies with either Michelin X-Ice Xi3 or Continental Extreme Winter Contact tires. Both great tires for the ice/snow. Also, Bridgestone Blizzaks are exceptional tires for snow/ice.
Michelin is my favorite tire manufacturer so I will likely opt for the X-Ice Xi3's.
