I have the 18" 124s on RE50A RFTs.
It doesn't matter what pressures you have on the RF's.

They are hard as steel anyway.

Go for the max.

40 at all 4 corners on my 20's.
40 is too low rear!

38 F and 42 R is better.

Any technical reasons why you choose this setting?

40ish Psi sounds too high to me.

I run 34-36 all around.
From what I have read most cars (BMW included) are set up to under steer vs. over steer when grip thresholds are exceeded. The OEM higher rear tire pressure contributes to the OEM under steer tendency. Going with a lower pressure in the rear makes the handling a little more neutral and makes it a bit easier to rotate the car with the gas pedal. From what I have read Dinan sets its cars up with almost equal tire pressure front and back.

From my experience 34 - 36 psi gives me the best combination of handling and ride comfort. The roads are pretty rough where I live and tire pressure in the 40's makes for a pretty hard ride. However I only run 18" wheels so I have a reasonable amount of tire sidewall to protect the wheel. When you go to 19" or 20" wheels the tire side wall is much less and you need to run higher pressure to protect the wheels.

My thoughts...

Not true. After my original post, I went from 38 front and rear to 32f/36r and noticed big difference in the ride (def softer) and the overall feel of the car. Still trying to find the right balance, but this feels pretty good.
