Correct tire pressure is indicated on the door jamb. Running pressures that are higher, or lower is dangerous. Not only you'll end up with unevenly worn tires, it will also affect your fuel economy, ride, comfort, and may damage your suspension components. Never over-inflate your tires. Keep in mind that cold air pressure and warm air pressures are different.

got it. point taken. I have always filled to the max on stamped on the tires. to think I have built engines before but I have been putting the wrong amount of air in the tires. Maybe I will put like 1 psi over and list it in my signature like a mod.

I remember it wasn't too long ago you were supposed to match tire pressures to the load. For example if you had four people with all their luggage it called for a higher pressure than if you were driving alone with no luggage.

That is precisely what is indicated in the car manual. But then, who pays attention to the manual, especially if one is a modifier!

The Owner's Manual for my 2016 535iX only shows tire pressures for 5 persons + luggage. I suspect that is CYA to protect them from some complaint about getting a blowout even thought their tire pressure was too low for conditions. Of course handling and tire wear will suffer if you are driving around with just yourself and maybe one other and no luggage.

My 2005 545 manual shows the tire pressure for all the E60s of 2005 vintage and it has the pressures for laden and unladen car. I have found that the recommended pressures to be quite good and adjust them slightly according to the brand and type that I use at the time. BTW, the manual also contains pressures for winter tires. When in doubt, go slightly higher than recommended, then go from there.

That is what I was trying to point out----in the old days they gave you useful information now it is just CYA in case somebody sues.
