Whilst looking for a power socket in my passenger footwell I noticed the 'things' in the attached photos. Can anyone tell me what they are?

Are you the original owner of the car? That speaker looking thing does not look like anything from the factory.

As far as that rectangular opening goes, I don't know what it is but from the photo I really can't tell where it's located (too much of a close-up to get a point of view...)

The speaker looks like it was from a 3rd party hands-free cell phone kit, possibly a Motorola.

Yeah, I thought it looked like an after market hands free speaker (why it is under there I don't know).

The rectangular opening is under the glove compartment, the photo is looking up at it. The black at the top of the photo is the hinge of the glove compartment "cover" and the grey plastic is the start of the door sill.

Remember us folks in the UK have right hand drive cars so the passenger is on the left!

The rectangle cover is the blanking plate for the footwell lights which are parts of the Lights Package.

Forgot about you guys sitting on the wrong side of the car!

The speaker for sure isn't something BMW would've done -- primarily because of the risk of injury in a crash.

Can't say much more about the rectangular access panel but I'll bet you that black wire bundled up there leads to the little speaker...

It would certainly look wrong if you were watching me try to drive your car through the United Kingdom. Crossing the street is enough of a challenge.

I find it harder to actually walk up to the actual driver's side before getting in to drive off...

I used to fly into the UK regularly on business and pick up a rental car at the airport each time. Lost count of the times I walked up to the wrong side of the car
