It's either for the flux capacitor or it's for the cell phone compensator.
Since I doubt I need to explain anything about the flux capacitor, I'll stick to explaining the phone compensator...
Back in the pre-Bluetooth days, the BMW factory phone (called the CPT-9000) connected directly to the car's electronics as well as the shark-fin antenna. The CPT-9000 system, at least in the US, had a provision for an optional module (the compensator) which was supposed to "equalize losses in the aerial cables to ensure the full transmitting and receiving power of the mobile phone was available at the aerial" but was only installed by customer request (or complaint).
I'm pretty sure the connectors you're asking about are for this optional (and seldomly installed) compensator module. It's actually a little hard to tell exactly where on the car the photo is showing -- a zoomed out version would help...)
The following post may help you see where the connectors would go if you had a compensator installed:

Maybe I can explain it better. I took out the cover in the trunk so I can access the brake lights and as soon as I removed it, these wires were there. Just hanging out. Waiting for me to discover them. It is on the left side. I checked on the right side where the battery is but the only place I saw them was on the left.

Rudy, you rock! Thanks a bunch! That was driving me crazy. Though, I am sad it was not a flux capacitor... ![Tease](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/tease.gif)
